Wolfson Tournament Winners use Rodman
Each year the Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville hosts a bass tournament fund raiser launched from Palatka. It is probably the largest bass tournament in northern Florida and normally has over four hundred fishing teams that enter the competition. Fishermen launch into the St. Johns River from the Palatka City Dock and can fish anywhere they wish as long as they can get there by water in their boat. The tournament is a three day tournament with special VIP tournaments held on Thursday and Friday and the main competition held on Saturday.
Four hundred and twenty two boats were launched at first light on Saturday the 15th. Of these One hundred and twenty six chose to fish in Rodman Reservoir and made a beeline for Rodman locking into the reservoir through Buckman Lock. This decision turned out to be a very wise choice because when the weigh-in of the days catch, five fish limit per boat, was completed at the Palatka river front amphitheater it was determined that the 1st place (31.34 pounds), 2nd place (24.28 pounds) and 3rd place (22.43 pounds) winners had all caught their fish in the reservoir. Not only where the first three winning weights caught in Rodman, but both the biggest fish (10.92 pounds) and the second biggest bass ( 9.23 pounds) also came from Rodman.
Now again we have statistical proof that Rodman is one of the very best bass fisheries in Florida. These fisherman could have fished in hundreds of other places along the St. Johns River or in any of the joining lakes, but twenty nine percent of the contestants in the tournament chose Rodman and the results proved their choice was a good one.
